VERONA TESSILE

My tour through Verona's beauty and Verona Tessile's Quilts started from Piazza Bra.
From the 19th until the 24th May 2015 Verona hosted a series of exhibitions dedicated to International Patchwork. I wasn't able to visit everything... but I almost did.

After admiring the stunning Piazza Bra dominated by the Arena, I went to Palazzo dei Mutilati (Palace of the War Wounded) where there was the contest "Colours of Wines" and "The Music of my Life".
I chatted at the "Knit Lab" with the knitting lovers, who realize small clothes for premature babies.

You can see below the first classified quilts and an overview of the quilts of "The Music of my Life".

Going down via Roma you can see in the background Castelvecchio and immediately behind Scaligero Bridge.

After passing the main door I get into the yard of Castelvecchio Museum and then in one of its rooms on the first floor from a huge staircase. There, in front of me the "Ancient Quilts of Galles".
Their collector, Jen Jones, arrived from USA to Galles in the 70s and finds these abandoned and forgot wonders. She collects about 200 and starts "taking care of them" creating then a museum: The Welsh Quitl Center.
I could have stayed there forever, but there was still a lot to see.

After so much beauty, walking by the river Adige and after visiting the Church of San Lorenzo and the district of Le Cadreghe (with chairs hanging outside),

I arrive to the Church of San Pietro in Monastero. Here I'm attracted by two felt sculptures by Andrea Graham

then entering in what I guess is the Sacristy, I find myself surrounded by the art Sheila Roccheggiani and Pietrina Atzori with the installation of Kimoni and exciting "boro" and membrane sculptures on the walls everything completed by the jewels made by Sabrina Bottura.
There was such an intimate atmosphere.

And... it was so beautiful to walk along the little streets which took me to admire the quilt collection by Ad Maiora, the association from Verona which curated the event.
In this collection named "Between ancient and modern" I could see quilts I've seen in the past but also I've discovered new ones. I then attended the presentation of the book by Mariarosa Nola, an "old" patchwork friend.

Happier and happier I continue my journey and arrive to the former Church of San Giorgetto, where my attention is captured by the simple and linear beauty of the quilts in the collective exhibition by artists inspired by Nancy Crow. There were many artists and I can remember only the name of Ramona Conconi, who I personally know.

Under the rain I arrive at Piazza delle Erbe and after going trough a passage (I can't recall the name of it) I find myself at Palazzo della Ragione, where I went through a long staircase to find Japanese quilts.

A surprise and a huge wonder as I found them so different from the famous ones we all know. These were so colorful and different themes.
The only thing I could do was observe, take pictures and the sit on the benches to relax after the big visual impact. An then I started studying them again one-by-one.

Then I said hello to the chilled-to-the-bone friends at Bernina area and I went to the Public Library passing through the yard of Giulietta's house (where I didn't go, as there was so much crowd).

I took pictures of the library windows and the I went inside to see the traditional patchwork by the association La Zampa dell'Orso from Udine. The quilts were so beautiful and precise. Unfortunately I could not see "La seta che parla" (The talking silk) as it was late.

Naturalmente come potete vedere nell'ultima foto dove ho evidenziato il mio percorso alcuni punti li ho persi e mi dispiace.

Of course, as you can see from last picture - where I highlighted my path - I wasn't able to attend some events and I'm sorry about that.

During my tour I met may patch-friends and saw a lot of patchwork on the floors, walls and the magnificent doors enriching Verona.
In the end, here you are the pictures of the award ceremony and a patchwork of bottles of wine which inspired the competition.

Wow! There are so many beautiful inspirations here--a very full day!! Thank you so much for sharing all the photos, including the close ups. I would love to see the Welsh quilts someday. Your photos show more detail than in the book. Bravo!
