«Quasi ogni mattina vado nella soffitta per soffiare via dai miei polmoni quest'aria stantia», scriveva Anna Frank dal suo nascondiglio il 23 febbraio 1944: «Dal mio posto preferito guardo su verso il cielo blu e verso l'albero di castagno spoglio, sui cui rami brillano piccole gocce di pioggia, che sembrano d'argento...».
Anna Frank morì di tifo nel campo di concentramento di Bergen-Belsen nel 1945, non ancora sedicenne.
