LA CRONACA DI UN QUILTING DAY --- THE CHRONICLE OF A QUILTING DAY

La cronaca di un quilting day è lunga, ricca di incontri e di momenti di scambio di idee, servono parecchi mesi per organizzare tutto nel modo migliore io cercherò di raccontarvi la storia del Quilting day del Lago Maggiore in breve.

Durante l'ultima assemblea di Quilt Italia a Pesaro, Francesca Miglierina dice "in Lombardia non abbiamo la delegata e allora il quilting day lo organizzo io, se volete darmi una mano lo facciamo".

Per chi non la conosce, Francesca è un vulcano e quello che pensa poi realizza.

Dopo pochi giorni ci comunica che aveva trovato la sede e il 15 febbraio andiamo tutte insieme a Villa Frascoli di Laveno Mombello.

The chronicle of a quilting day is long and rich of meetings and moments during which ideas can be exchanged. It takes countless months to organize everything in the best way. I'll try to tell you shortly the story of The Quilting Day of Lake Maggiore.

During last meeting if Quilt Italia i. pesaro, Fracesca Miglierina said "we don't have a REPRESENTATIVE for Lombardia, thus I will organize the quilting day, if you want to help me we can do it."

For those who don't know Francesca, let me tell you she is a ball of fire and she realizes everything she thinks about.

After a few days she told us she found the place and on the 15th February we all went to Villa Fascoli in Laveno Mombello.

Dall'alto il paesaggio era magnifico, dominavamo tutto il golfo di Laveno e la villa era stupenda.

Dopo esserci guardate attorno non c'era altro da fare che dire di si e poi davanti ad un buon caffè decidere che c'erano alcuni vocaboli che dovevano caratterizzare l'incontro del 1° giugno. 

Eravamo in 12 ma subito ci siamo trovate d'accordo su queste parole:

OMAGGIO - rendere omaggio alla dimora che ci avrebbe ospitato realizzando due blocchi utilizzando i bassorilievi che ci offriva la villa

COLLABORAZIONE - realizzare un quilt in comune con una finalità benefica

COLLEGAMENTO - realizzare un quilt che unisse il patchwork tradizionale al patchwork contemporaneo

CONDIVISIONE - invitare tre quilters che condividessero con noi il loro metodo di lavoro

e su questi punti abbiamo lavorato per alcuni mesi.

From above the landscape looked amazing, we dominated the whole Gulf of Laveno and the Villa was so beautiful.

After looking around we could just say YES! and then sit in front of a tasty coffee and decide that there were some words that should have caracterized the meeting of the 1st June.

There was 12 of us but immediately we all agreed on these words:

HOMAGE - give homage to the Villa by realizing two blocks using low reliefs of the place

COLLABORATION - realize a quilt together to be given for charity

CONNECTION - realize a quilt connecting traditional and contemporary patchwork

SHARING - invite 3 quilters who shared with us their method 

And we worked on these points for some months.

Abbiamo fotografato e realizzato le mascherine e le serigrafie dei bassorilievi per i blocchi in applique e per i blocchi con la stampa, tagliato le stoffe, costruito i gadgets, deciso il pranzo, deciso il coinvolgimento della cittadina che ci ospitava.

Il momento più bello è stato quello dell'invito alle tre quilters che ci avrebbero intrattenuto con le loro tecniche.

La loro risposta è stata subito "SI" e questo ci ha molto entusiasmato. Mariangela Tenni, Mirella Todeschi e Teresa Gai avrebbero vivacizzato ed emozionato il nostro pomeriggio. 

We took pictures and then realized masks and screen-printing of the low-reliefs for the applique and printed blocks, we cut fabrics, built gadgets, decided about lunch, dediced the involvement of the town hosting us.

The most beautiful moment was the invitation of the 3 quilters who should have entertained us with their techniques.

They answered YES immediately and this excited us a lot. Mariangela Tenni, Mirella Todeschi and Teresa Gai would have juiced up and emotioned put afternoon.

Ieri era il 1° giugno ed era il giorno tanto atteso.

La partecipazione è stata numerosa, la voglia di cucire e di stampare molto vivace, il pranzo ottimo e il pomeriggio con le tre quilters molto interessante ed emozionante.

Yesterday was the 1st June and was the long-waited day.

A lot of people took part, the will to sew and print was huge, lunch was tasty and the afternoon with the 3 quilters so interesting and exciting.
