AFGANISTAN - ITALIA è parte di una iniziativa del DAI (Associazione umanitaria tedesca di Friburgo) che coinvolge Donne di diversi paesi e di diverse culture che insieme creano per un progetto comune. Ogni nazione avrà un tema, il tema per l'Italia sarà FRUTTA E FIORI.
Alcuni quadratini ricamati dalle Donne Afgane dovranno essere inseriti in un progetto tessile, che può essere di patchwork oppure di altro genere, dalle Donne Italiane che decidono di aderire.
L'Italia partecipa per iniziativa dell' associazione AD MAIORAdi Verona, alla quale dovrete rivolgervi dopo aver letto attentamente tutte le spiegazioni che troverete qui. Chi desidera partecipare dovrebbe mettersi in contatto con l'associazione AD MAIORA inviando una mail ai seguenti indirizzi,

per poter avere il quadrato di cm 8x8 che verrà poi inserito in un quilt oppure in un altro progetto tessile e per chiedere qualsiasi informazione riguardante il progetto.

e qui invece due quilt che hanno partecipato ad una analoga iniziativa realizzata nel 2006 ed esposti al QUILT ARTE LUGANO.

RICETTA --- RECIPE

Scusate se nel post precedente non ho pensato di tradurre la ricetta di Paola , che ha riscosso successo ed allora la traduco qui sotto. Il nome del piatto l'ho inventato io: "SPAGHETTI ALLA PAOLA".
I'm sorry if I didn't think about translating the previous post's recipe by Paola . It had a great success and so you can read the translation below. The name was created by me: "SPAGHETTI ALLA PAOLA".

Put a pot full of water on the fire,
take off the skin of a medium dimensions potato,
cut it into little LISTARELLE and put into water. Add salt.

While waiting for water to boil,
prepare a Genoese pesto:
chop up a clove of garlic, some basil leaves, a spoon of pine nut, two spoons of grated Roman pecorino,
a pinch of salt and oil.

Put spaghetti in the boiling water, and when they are ready drain and add pesto.
Potatoes, drained with spaghetti, give a particular and tasty flavour.
If you like, add little pieces of nuts.
Enjoy your meal!

Ed ecco i miei due orsetti per Regaliamo un Sorriso sono Lucy e Dido. Dido è il soprannome di mio figlio e Lucy perchè la stoffa me l'ha regalata la mia amica Lucia.
And below you can see my two little bears for Give a Smile as a Gift , they are Lucy and Dido. Dido is my son's nickname and Lucy comes from the name, Lucia, of a friend of mine who gave me the fabric.

Ciao a tutte, eccomi qua, mi sono finalmente ripresa da una brutta influenza che mi aveva messo ko.
Naturalmente vi ringrazio per le mail che mi avete mandato e che mi hanno fatto tanto, tanto, tanto piacere. 
Non riuscivo a stare davanti al computer, mi girava la testa e poi pensate che a una patita come me di caffè, ristretto e amaro, l'influenza ha lasciato la "non voglia di caffè" anzi se ci penso mi viene la nausea.

Vi avviso che questo post sarà un po' lungo perchè ho tante cose da dirvi.

Hi everybody, here I am, back after a very bad flu. 

I want to thank you for all the emails you've sent me and I really really liked.

I couldn't stay in front of pc, I felt dizzy and think of me addicted to coffee -very short and without sugar- and the flu took away my "wish for coffee". If I even think of it, I still feel sick.

Let me tell you this post will be a bit long because I have a lot of stuff to tell you. 

Ho lavorato un pochino e il quilt del QUILTING DAY DI MONZA  sta procedendo......

I've been working a bit and the MONZA QUILTING DAY quilt is in progress......

Ed ora una ricettina facile e di grande effetto da fare come dessert. Me l'ha insegnata Graziella ed è stata un successo. Si chiama ARAGOSTA FLAMBE'.

And now a really easy recipe but that makes an impression. It's a dessert. Graziella taught it to me and it was a great success. Its name is FLAMBE' LOBSTER.

Dovete prendere una arancia non molto grande così ne potete fare una per ciascuno........

Take an orange, not a big one, so you can make one for each person.......

sbucciatela lasciandola intera.........

cut the skin without breaking it..........

poi tagliatela a fettine.........

then cut little slices.........

e sistematele sul piatto di portata (se l'arancia è piccola ognuno avrà il suo piatto).

and place them on a plate (if the orange is small you can use one plate for each person).

Dalla buccia, ben lavata, ritagliate le antennine, le chele e la coda........

Wash the skin and cut out the little feelers. the claws and the tail........

poi lungo la schiena versate un po' di zucchero e guarnite il piatto con cioccolatini, panna o amaretti........

put some sugar on the back and garnish the plate with chocolates, cream or macaroon........

sopra lo zucchero versate un po' di cognac............

pour cognac on the sugar............

quindi accendete il liquore con un fiammifero......

and then light brandy with a match............

tenete il viso lontano ed ecco l'aragosta flambè!

keep your face far from it and here you are the flambè lobster!

Se prima dell'aragosta volete gustare degli spaghetti (le mie sono bavette) deliziosi la ricetta è  qui da Paola.

Questa sotto invece è una lampada che mi hanno regalato i miei figli, è stile anni 60 e quando è accesa la pasta che c'è all'interno continua a muoversi trasformandosi in innumerevoli forme. E' un po' come noi che cambiamo sempre.

Below you can see the lamp my children gave to me as a gift. It's a 60s style and when it's on the fluid inside of it goes up and down creating different shapes. It's like us, always changing.

Sulla sinistra del blog ho messo un po' di BOM. Ricordatevi di scaricare ogni mese il disegno che vi interessa perchè alcuni blog lo lasciano solo per un mese e poi lo cancellano.

Ho anche inserito tra i blog di cucina un sito dove si parla di cucina tradizionale, di cibi legati alle feste e alle tradizioni italiane, ci si perde tanto tempo ma ne vale la pena.

On the left of my blog I've put some BOM. Remeber to download the figure you like, because some blogs change picture every month.

I've added among food blogs a website about traditional cooking, Italian feasts and traditions cooking. You'll waste a lot of time going around it but it's very good.

Ora vorrei dire alle amiche che verranno a Rimini che, qui da REGALIAMO UN SORRISO, se vogliono possono leggere di una nuova iniziativa per i bimbi orfani del Burkina Faso. Chi volesse partecipare potrebbe portare l'orsetto al nostro incontro. Per il cartellino non preoccupatevi che lo porto io.

Now I want to tell to friends coming to Rimini that, here at GIVE A SMILE AS A GIFT, if they want they can read the new initiative for orphan children who live in Burkina Faso. Friends who want to take part in this project can take their bear at the meeting. Don't worry about the card, I'll take it.

UNA BORSA PER TUTTE --- A BAG FOR EVERYONE

Per gli auguri di natale, una sera sono andata a cena con le amiche del gruppo di Ileana (la signora che ha chiuso il negozio di patchwork per poter fare la nonna) e c'era una sorpresa per lei. Ileana apre il pacchetto con il regalo........
One night I had dinner with the friends of Ileana's group to wish each other merry Christmas (the woman who closed her patchwork shop to be a 24/7 grandmom) and there was a surprise for her. Ileana opened the gift's box........

e trova una borsa da lavoro...........
and founded a work-bag.........

che naturalmente subito le piace.......
that she immediately loved..........



poi compaiono tante altre borse...........
then many other bags appeared...........

uscivano adagio adagio da alcuni sacchetti nascosti in un angolo........
they were coming from some boxes hidden in a corner...........

ed eccole tutte............ le borse create attorno ad un blocco che Cosetta aveva insegnato durante il Quilting Day di ottobre. Ogni quilter aveva fatto la propria borsa e tutte insieme quella di Ileana.

RITA E LE LANTERNE DI GENOVA --- RITA AND GENOA'S LANTERNS

.


Questa bellissima lanterna è il simbolo di Genova la città dove vive Rita.
Quando devo spiegare chi è Rita dico che è una amica molto timida, semplice, sincera, disponibile, sorridente e poi aggiungo che è "LA MAGA DELL'APPLIQUE" infatti lei conosce questa tecnica benissimo e applica fiori, frutta, cestini e tanti altri soggetti, creando bellissimi quilt, in qualsiasi posto lei possa sedersi, persino in treno mentre si reca al lavoro.
Anche questa lanterna è stata realizzata con la tecnica dell'applique, Rita ne ha fatte tante e poi le ha spedite alle amiche.
Se volete vederne altre realizzate con diversi colori le potete trovare, da Marisa , Viola , Lele e Simone , Nadia , Claudia , Annamaria , Floriana , Grazia , e Brunella . 
This wonderful lantern is the symbol of Genoa, the city where Rita lives.
When I have to explain who Rita is, I usually say she is a close, simple, sincere, helpful and smiling friend and she's "THE MAGICIAN OF APPLIQUE".
She knows this technique very well and applies flowers, fruits, baskets and many other subjects creating wonderful quilts wherever she can sit, even on the train while she's going to work.
This lantern was made with applique technique too. Rita made many of them and then has sent them to friends.

Poichè penso che i quilt di Rita sono dei veri capolavori d'arte, approfitto dei suoi quadri morbidi per chiedere un aiuto a tutte voi che passate da questo blog.
Una socia di Quilt Italia sta portando avanti da un po' di tempo una ricerca intitolata "I QUILT NELL'ARTE".
Giovanna cerca dipinti e altre opere dove siano riprodotti quilt. 
Lei studia il quadro e poi progetta e riproduce il quilt. A questo punto del suo lavoro ha bisogno di una mano da chiunque in Italia e nel Mondo conosca opere riproducenti quilt.
Purtroppo alcuni artisti non riescono ad andare oltre i confini della propria nazione ma non per questo sono meno bravi e le loro opere meno interessanti.

Because I think that Rita’s quilts are masterpieces of art, I take the chance given by her soft painting to ask you, coming on my blog, some help.
A member of Quilt Italia is making a research called “QUILTS IN THE ART”.
Giovanna looks for paintings and other works of art reproducing quilts. She studies the painting and then she designs and reproduces the quilt.
At this point of her work she needs someone from Italy and the world that knows works of art reproducing quilts.
Unfortunately many artists are not able to cross their Nation’s borders but this doesn’t mean they are not good enough or their works are not interesting.

INVERNO 2009 --- WINTER 2009

BUON 2009 !!!
La mia vacanza è stata breve, ma lo spettacolo che ho potuto ammirare era meraviglioso.
Da tanti anni non vedevo Chiesa in Valmalenco e Livigno coperti da tanta neve.
Anche il freddo è stato intenso e durante il giorno la temperatura non è mai salita sopra ai -6 gradi.  Era uno spettacolo che sembrava da favola.

My vacation this winter was really short but the show I was watching was marvellous.
It was since many years that I have no chance to see Chiesa in Valmalenco e Livigno full of snow.
Even the temperature it was never more then 6 degrees below zero. It was a spectacular view of winter scenery..
it seem a fairytale landscape.
